Conflict of interest.

Authors should disclose potential and explicit conflicts of interest related to the manuscript. Any situation (financial relations, service or work in institutions having a financial or political interest in published materials, job duties, etc.) that could affect the author of the manuscript and lead to concealment, distortion of data, or change their interpretation can be considered a conflict of interests. The presence of a conflict of interest among one or more authors is not a reason for refusing to publish an article. The concealment of potential and obvious conflicts of interest on the part of the authors revealed by the editors may cause a refusal to consider and publish the manuscript.

4. Systematic review and systematic review with meta-analysis

The editorial board of the journal "Ateroscleroz" supports the definition of a scientific review as an important part of the scientific knowledge. Accordingly, the methodology for creating review articles for the journal "Ateroscleroz" must comply with the principles and standards adopted in leading medical journals.
Due to the fact that the journal "Ateroscleroz" strives to provide readers with materials of the highest quality and scientific significance, the editorial board will give preference to reviews in the form of systematic analyzes.
When writing systematic reviews, unlike descriptive literature reviews, a methodology is used that can significantly reduce the likelihood of erroneous conclusions due to incomplete information. Systematic review refers to the application of strategies that limit bias in the collection, critical appraisal, and synthesis of research on a particular topic. A systematic review may include a quantitative synthesis of the results of individual peer studies using meta-analysis. A systematic review usually answers a specific clinical question, for the answer to which literature sources are searched and selected according to clear criteria.
Thus, a review submitted to the journal "Ateroscleroz" must comply with the following rules:
• The review should be structured
• The urgency of the problem should be reflected
• The purpose of the review should be clearly stated.
• Methods of collecting information should be indicated: platforms, sites, total number of viewed works; keywords, authors, etc., for which the sample was made, are presented.
• The main part of the review should present the essence of the found works, and reflect the contradictions of the authors who hold different views on the problem under discussion.
• The discussion should include the opinion of the author of the review, coinciding or not coinciding with the opinion of the authors of the works cited in the review. It is also possible to evaluate the adequacy of the statistical methods used and to give a critical assessment of the works under discussion.
• The review should end with conclusions summarizing existing knowledge gaps and identify directions for future research.
• The review must be free of any bias, and the authors of the review must disclose any conflicts of interest.

5. Submission procedure

Please submit the manuscript via the online form available at the Journal webpage. The manuscript should be presented as a Microsoft Office Word document in the *.doc, *.docx, or *.rtf formats. The main file should not contain the names of authors and names of institutions. The text is printed on A4, spacing 1.5, margin 20 mm, basic font Times New Roman, 12 pt.

Additionally uploaded:

- a scan of cover letter from the institution where the study was performed;

- a scan of extract from the Ethics Committee meeting;

- an Information file with the Title page, information about the authors and disclosure of conflicts of interest;

- files with pictures if necessary;

- the license agreement filled and subscribed by the authorized author. The agreement should be uploaded in the *.pdf or *.jpg format.

6. Interaction between the Journal and the author

The editorial staff of the journal will correspond with the responsible (corresponding) author; however, if the authors wish, emails can be copied to all authors for whom an e-mail address is indicated.

All articles submitted to the journal “Ateroscleroz” are preliminarily checked by the executive secretary of the journal for their compliance with formal requirements. At this stage, the article can be returned to the author(s) for revision with a request to eliminate errors or add missing data. The article may be rejected due to its inconsistency with the purposes of the journal, lack of originality or low scientific value.

Following the preliminary check, the responsible editor submits the article to the reviewers, specifying the timing of the review.

In borderline cases, the editor may involve several more specialists in the review process, as well as the editor-in-chief.

With a positive conclusion of reviewers, the article is transferred to the editor for the preparation for the press.

When making a decision on the completion of an article, the comments and remarks of the reviewer are transmitted to the author. The author is given six months to resolve issues raised in comments. If, during this period, the author has not notified the editorial board about the planned actions, the article will be removed from the publication queue.

Should a decision be taken to refuse publication of an article, the appropriate decision will be sent to the corresponding author. Rejection rate of the journal “Ateroscleroz” is 20%.

The final (authoritative) version of the layout is sent to the corresponding author of the article accepted for publication, who is obliged to verify it. A response is expected from the authors within a period of two days. If no response will be received from the author, the article is considered to have been approved.

7. Procedure for reviewing the decisions of the editor / reviewer

If the author does not agree with the opinion of the reviewer and / or individual comments, he or she has the right to challenge the decision. In order to do this, the author must:

- correct the manuscript of the article according to the justified comments of reviewers and editors;

- clearly state his or her position regarding the issue under consideration.

The editors will facilitate the re-submission of manuscripts that could potentially be accepted, but have been rejected due to the need to make significant changes or to collect additional data; the editors are ready to explain in detail what needs to be corrected in the manuscript in order for it to be accepted for publication.

8. Editorial actions in case of detection of plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data

In case of detection of scientific misconduct, i.e. plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data on the part of the author, the editors are guided by COPE rules.

By “misconduct”, Journal “Ateroscleroz” refers to any actions taken by individual scientists, including improper handling of objects of study or intentional manipulation of scientific information whereby it ceases to reflect the observed studies, as well as scientific behaviour that does not correspond to accepted ethical and scientific standards.

However, the journal “Ateroscleroz” does not include under the term “misconduct” honest errors or discrepancies that have arisen during the process of carrying out, interpreting or evaluating research methods or results.

9. Correction of errors and recalling of articles

If errors are found in the text that affect its perception but do not distort the stated results of the study, they can be corrected by replacing the pdf file of the article and pointing out the error in the article file and on the article page on the journal’s website.

If an error is found in the text that distorts the results of the research, or if plagiarism or misconduct is detected on the part of the author(s) that relates to the falsification and / or fabrication of data, the article can be withdrawn. Initiator of article reviews can include editorial staff, authors, organisations or private individuals.

A withdrawn article will be marked with the sign “Article withdrawn” and the article page will include information on the reason for recalling the article. Information about the recall of the articles will be sent to the databases in which the journal is indexed.
