Professor, Doctor of Sciences (Medicine), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Head of the Institute of Internal and Preventive Medicine, a branch of the Federal Research Center Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Major areas of expertise
The main field of Yu.I. Ragino's activity is the investigation of atherosclerosis. She is an expert in the biochemistry and pathophysiology of common cardiovascular diseases.
Major scientific achievements
Yuliya I. Ragino studied and identified key biochemical markers and mechanisms of the formation of various types of unstable atherosclerotic plaques in atherosclerosis; developed methods for early biochemical detection of atherosclerosis and assessment of the risk of the acute coronary syndrome; developed a method of assessing the probability of the presence of unstable atherosclerotic plaques in coronary arteria; determined the key role of biomolecules associated with the secretory activity of abdominal adipocytes in the development of early ischemic heart disease in persons under 45 years; developed the concept of unidirectional highly atherogenic changes in oxidatively and structurally modified blood lipoproteins, including small dense atherogenic subfractions, in clinically apparent atherosclerosis and its major risk factors; and studied the atherogenic properties of oxidized proteins and their role in atherogenesis. She proposed new criteria for assessing the efficiency of the pharmacological correction of a disease.
